HEAVENLY HOOKLAND

“BLUE TOMORROW.” The Swimming Pool Q’s. A&M.; If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like if Mary Travers fronted a rock ‘n’ roll band--and who doesn’t every now and then?--the answer might be close to the sound of Anne Richmond Boston’s pretty, pretty vocals atop the rocking, rocking music of Georgia’s Swimming Pool Q’s. “Blue Tomorrow” offers more than just the catchy folk-tinged hooks of the band’s last effort, finally establishing it as one of the best young U.S. outfits around. It’s dreamy and a little raw this time around. “There’s more than just one heaven down here on the ground,” Boston waxes poetically, before ordering, “Take me on up, baby!” For the short length of most of the wonderful songs here, the Q’s do just that.
