$100 Million to Aid Nicaragua’s Contras: Pro and Con

The first line of your editorial says it all, succinctly and to the point: “Members of Congress may try to deny the harsh truth of the matter, but they have finally given President Reagan carte blanche to wage his dirty little war against Nicaragua.”
Everyone from the State Department to the Pentagon knows and says, if quietly, that another $100 million will make no difference--the contras cannot and will not bring down the Sandinista regime. So why does Reagan insist that we pour more and more millions down the proverbial rat hole?
