Ben Johnson of Canada ran the second-fastest 100 meters ever, and American Edwin Moses won his 111th consecutive 400-meter hurdles race at the Goodwill Games tonight.

Johnson, a bronze medalist in the 1984 Olympics, was clocked in 9.95 seconds, tying Jimmy Hines on the all-time list and just two-hundredths of a second behind the record held by Calvin Smith. Second was Nigeria’s Chidi Imo in 10.04, with American Olympic champion Carl Lewis third at 10.06. It was the fourth consecutive time Johnson has beaten Lewis.
