One Word for the Weekend Weather Forecast: Great

San Diego this weekend will be spared the hot weather that has most of the rest of the country sweltering, as local temperatures remain seasonal and pleasant.

The late-night and early-morning low clouds will remain, but days will be sunny and fair, National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

“Average temperatures will be exactly that, average,” Shigehara said. “The rest of the country is roasting, but I expect to see fair weather and seasonal conditions here in San Diego at least through the beginning of next week.”

Shigehara said westerly upper-level winds, which have been around since earlier in the week, are keeping temperatures right where they usually are this time of year. The high at Lindbergh Field on Thursday was 73 degrees, while the average temperature for that date is 75. The overnight low was 64, the exact average low for July 10.

“By Sunday, temperatures might notch up a degree or two,” Shigehara said. “But no major changes can be expected.”

High temperatures at the beaches will be in the 68- to 74-degree range, with the low clouds a bit more persistent than in the inland areas. The surf will be three to five feet, larger than average because of a distant storm off the coast of Baja California. The ocean temperature will remain around 67 degrees.

Inland areas can expect highs from 79 to 89, and overnight lows ranging from 58 to 64.

The mountain areas will see highs between 75 and 83, with lows in the 50s. Desert temperatures will remain hot, with highs between 104 and 109, and lows around 70.
