Reporter Is Accused of Being Prejudiced

I would like to express my deep concern for the lack of impartiality and the strong prejudice that Mr. Grahame L. Jones expresses toward the Argentine soccer team and for my country as well. I can respect Mr. Jones’ opinion that Michel Platini was the best player of the World Cup competition, although the majority of sports journalists chose Diego Maradona.

However, I must disagree with his other statements, the worst injustice of all being his allegations, via the Times of London, that the 1978 World Cup victory of Argentina was a product of corruption and bribery although he states that “nothing was ever proven.” This is a blatant insult to the governments and teams of Argentina, as well as those of Peru.

It also does not better the reputation of Argentina or of the World Cup, to state that there was a supposed “hand-ball” goal by Maradona against Great Britain. Although Mr. Jones may not agree that Argentina won fairly, it’s a fact that he cannot dispel.
