Farmers are harvesting a winter wheat crop estimated at 1.55 billion bushels, down 15% from last year’s harvest and 2% less than forecast a month ago, the Agriculture Department said. In a related supply-and-demand report, department analysts projected total U.S. wheat output this year at about 2.17 billion bushels, including the winter and spring crops. That would be the smallest total production since 1979, when 2.13 billion bushels were harvested.
