A 17-year-old Huntington Beach girl drowned in a San Diego County river Saturday after white water jerked her out of her inner tube, authorities reported.
Mary Theresa Maloney was rafting with her family down the San Luis River near Palomar Mountain at the La Jolla Indian Reservation about 12:30 p.m. when she fell from the inner tube and was pinned between two rocks, coroner’s deputies said.
Nearby campers and a Life Flight doctor and nurse tried to resuscitate the victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene about 2 p.m.
