Fountain Valley : Council Will Consider Satellite Dish Limits

Share

The City Council is scheduled to consider an ordinance tonight that would severely restrict the placement and size of broadcast satellite dishes.

The ordinance would ban dishes in residential areas and prohibit all roof-mounted satellite dishes, Ray Kromer, assistant city manager, said.

The proposed city law would allow homeowners and businesses to keep their existing satellite dishes. City officials say there are 24 such dishes in Fountain Valley.

In commercial and industrial areas, the ordinance limits the diameter of the dish to eight feet and the antenna’s height from the ground to 11 feet, 4 inches, Kromer said.

The ordinance is designed to meet guidelines set by the Federal Communications Commission in March, said Don Contraman, a city planner.
