2 Agencies Share in $254,000 to Help Alcoholics

Two agencies in the San Gabriel Valley have received $254,000 from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to continue alcoholism prevention programs during the coming fiscal year.

The Los Angeles-based Community Service Organization received $157,722 to continue its recovery services for alcoholics in San Gabriel, El Monte and Whittier. The program, tailored for Spanish-speaking people, provides help for alcoholics and their families.

The National Council on Alcoholism of East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys was given $96,278 for its alcohol-related services, which include a center in Pomona for people to socialize in an alcohol-free environment. The agency also is responsible for six beds in a recovery home in Covina.
