Gunmen kidnaped a Swiss tourist and his female Filipino guide who had been picnicking on Santa Cruz Island, across a strait from Zamboanga, Philippines, police reported. The island is frequented by pirates and smugglers, police added. The victims, identified as Hans Kunzli and Adelina Gamoa, were abducted by several men who dragged them into their boat and fled toward Basilan island, 10 miles from Zamboanga, police said. Kunzli is the ninth foreigner to be kidnaped in the Mindanao region since 1978. The military has blamed most of the abductions on Muslim separatist guerrillas.
