Share

A 22-year-old Santa Ana man died after he lost control of his pickup and the truck rolled over three times, Costa Mesa police said Monday.

David Roman Amador of Santa Ana was alone in his pickup at 11:15 p.m. Sunday when it crossed into oncoming lanes on Placentia Avenue just north of Wilson Street in front of Estancia High School.

“Luckily there wasn’t anyone coming in the opposite direction. On Sunday at that hour, there was only light traffic,” a police spokesman said.

Witnesses told police that Amador was speeding and lost control of the pickup on a curve in front of the school. Kent said the posted speed limit is 40 m.p.h.

Amador was taken to the trauma center at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center with head and internal injuries. He died at 5:45 a.m., police said.

Amador’s driving record showed that he had been issued six speeding citations in the past two years, Kent said.
