Jean Harris, the killer of Dr. Herman Tarnower, author of “The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet,” has asked New York Gov. Mario M. Cuomo for clemency, her attorney said. Harris also renounced the $220,000 left to her in Tarnower’s will. Harris, 63, who has suffered two heart attacks, said that she was in ill health and had done good work on behalf of the children of inmates at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in White Plains, N.Y. A former girls’ school headmistress, Harris has served five years of a 15-years-to-life sentence for the 1980 murder.
