Soviet Agency Attacks Reagan Proclamation
The Soviet news agency Tass on Tuesday condemned President Reagan’s proclamation of Captive Nations Week, saying he attacked countries whose policies did not suit him and ignored the tragedies of other nations.
In a White House speech Monday designating this week as a time to remember countries under Soviet domination, the so-called captive nations, Reagan urged the Soviet Union to let its citizens travel more freely.
Tass charged that he singled out countries against whom Washington is waging undeclared war with the help of mercenaries--Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Angola, Vietnam and Cambodia.
At the same time, he had preferred to keep silent about people “truly held captive by dictatorial and racists regimes,” such as South Africa, Paraguay, El Salvador, Chile and South Korea, Tass said.
