European Common Market inflation rose 0.2%.
June’s consumer prices were 3.4% higher than a year ago, the Common Market reported. Eurostat, the Common Market’s statistics office, said a continuing decline in oil prices partially offset increases in other items last month. The rate of price changes in the Common Market from May to June ranged from a 1.7% jump in Greece to declines of 0.4% in the Netherlands, 0.2% in Denmark and 0.1% in Luxembourg and Britain. For the 12 months ended in June, West Germany reported a 0.2% decline in prices. The other Common Market countries had price increases for the 12 months ranging from 0.1% in Luxembourg and 0.2% in the Netherlands to 6.3% in Italy, 11.7% in Portugal and 24.4% in Greece.
