Monrovia : Building Moratorium OKd

Share

A building moratorium affecting 75% of property zoned for multifamily use in Monrovia has been approved by the City Council.

A study by city planners, expected to take six to eight months, will determine whether construction in some of these areas should be restricted.

Most of the property is in the central part of the city. Many of the lots contain single-family homes while others hold small apartment houses of two to four units, said Don Hopper, community development director.

Concerns have been raised when three or four units are built on one lot because the rear units are often two stories and considered unsightly by neighbors, he said. Some areas may be rezoned so that construction would be limited on some lots to two units and on others to four units.
