Detroit Lion running back Billy Sims, admitting that he has lost a battle to rehabilitate his reconstructed right knee, officially announced his retirement from pro football.
Sims, 30, who has not played in two years, injured his knee against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 21, 1984, and never recovered despite undergoing surgery for ligament damage and extensive rehabilitation.
