Keeping Eyes Open for Driving Device

Roberta Berkowitz of Skokie, Ill., would like to find a device that attaches to eyeglass frames and beeps when the driver falls asleep ; she is not particularly interested in the type that hooks over the ears. Can you be all ears and help lest Berkowitz is driven to distraction, or will she have to be in a completely different frame of mind before the ayes have it?

Luella L. Dealey of Culver City finds it increasingly difficult to obtain darning cotton. Can you help by cottoning to her needs, or will she wonder whether her future with the needle hangs by a thread because nobody else gives a darn?

Edward Solig has visited and phoned dozens of stores, but he cannot find any wooden clogs ; needless to say, he lives in Woodland Hills. He used to wear the clogs at the YMCA while showering because they prevented foot infection. Can you be on your toes and help, or will Solig be convinced he’s taking a bath on this matter because everybody else is such a heel?

Fred Hofeld of Los Angeles would like to obtain replacement blades for an electric edger made by the Lawn Barber Co., “the most efficient and best-designed edger ever made”--a crass statement indeed. Can you help before Hofeld begins to get too edgy, or will he be surprised because people have left him a-lawn?

Things are really popping for Rose Rice of Los Angeles, who was looking for a corn popper that uses oil. M.L.S. of Fountain Valley says she bought a Model 513 Hamilton Beach Butter-Up at Best’s. John Blair of Grand Hardware, 6410 San Fernando Road, Glendale, says he sometimes carries the really old-style popper, the one where you turn the crank on the top and hold it over the fire. And Alden Jay Glickman of Popcorn Parlor Inc., 4020 E. Main St., Ventura, says he carries a popcorn popper with a hand crank for $16.95. In addition, he sells other items, including the corn and special oils.

Box 4066, Terra Haute, Ind. 47804, sells an Aladdin No-Shake popper for $11.10 (mentioned by Charles Petrie of San Gabriel); Gurney’s Seed & Nursery, Yankton, S.D. 57079, has a Theater Popcorn Popper for $17.95 (from a Sunland reader); and Saathoff Hardware, 310 North C St., Edgar, Neb. 68935, sells an Atom Popcorn Popper for about $17 (from Dona Buda of South Gate). Other sources are Jolly Time Popcorn, P.O. Box 178, Sioux City, Iowa 51102 (from Mrs. J. Chapman, Thousand Oaks), and the Vermont Country Store, P.O. Box 3000, Manchester Center, Vt. 05255-3000 ($15.95 plus shipping, from R. C. Springett of Laguna Hills and Patricia Bedon of Los Angeles).

Other suggestions: Janet Allen of Sylmar uses an old pressure cooker (“it works fantastically”), and B. Graf of Burbank says a wok is fabulous for making popcorn. The wheels are spinning for Jeanne Khan of Glendale, who’s looking for training wheels for adult bikes. B. Conant of Van Nuys says the All Pro Bike Shop in Simi Valley, (805) 583-4296, carries such training wheels.

We also have a line for Carol Hoagland of Palos Verdes Estates, who was seeking a plastic liner for a wheeled laundry cart. Audrey Gore of Cerritos says these liners are available at Crown Hardware, Los Altos Shopping Center, Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach. And Mrs. George Oswald of Pasadena says she bought such a liner at Fishbeck’s Awning store on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena.
