About 400 protesters rallied outside Trans World Airlines headquarters in New York to demand that company Chairman Carl C. Icahn rehire about 5,000 flight attendants who are still out of work despite an unconditional offer in May to go back. The Independent Federation of Flight Attendants went on strike March 7 after Icahn asked its members to take a 22% pay cut and a 22% cut in benefits. The union called off the strike May 21. Members were left without a contract and most found themselves out of work because TWA had hired replacements.
