Chris Loses but U.S. Team Wins

PRAGUE, Czechoslovakia —
Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver saved the top-ranked United States from elimination today after Italy’s Sandra Cecchini upset Chris Evert Lloyd in the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup tennis competition.
Navratilova beat Italy’s top player, Rafaella Reggi, 6-2, 6-2, then combined with Shriver to defeat Reggi and Laura Garrone 6-3, 6-1 after Cecchini, ranked 64th in the world, defeated the mistake-prone Lloyd 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
