Oxley Wins Speedway Scratch Main Event
Brad Oxley of San Clemente won the four-lap scratch main event of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program Friday night in front of 6,987 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Oxley took the lead on the first turn and never relinquished it. Mike Faria of Colton challenged at every turn but finished second. Robert Pfetzing of Garden Grove was third, Sean McConnell of Brea fourth.
In the five-lap handicap main, Gary Hicks of Glen Avon overcame a 30-yard handicap to win. Scott Brown of New York was second, Oxley third, Tony Briggs of Dana Point fourth, Ronnie Correy of Fullerton fifth and Jeff Johnson of Bloomington sixth.
Chris Mistreha of Van Nuys won the second-division main event and Dwyane Blake of Huntington Beach won the third-division main.
