Rams : DeJurnett Signs; 5 Others Still Out

Share

Starting nose tackle Charles DeJurnett, a 10-year veteran, ended his holdout Monday and signed with the Rams. The 34-year-old DeJurnett, who had 28 tackles last season, was expected to join the team for practice today at the Cal State Fullerton camp.

The Rams had 80 players in uniform Monday for two sessions on their first day of practice for veterans.

But the Rams’ first-round draft pick, Mike Schad, and five veterans are still holding out. The veterans who have not reported are wide receiver Henry Ellard, linebackers Mel Owens and Jim Collins, nose tackle Shawn Miller and defensive end Doug Reed.

Starting left cornerback Gary Green, who has been undergoing medical tests since he arrived from his hometown of San Antonio last week, is expected to be out from three to five weeks because of the swollen disc in his neck that doctors fear could rupture. For the exhibition season, Jerry Gray--last season’s first-round pick from the University of Texas--will fill in at the starting position.

Defensive back Eric Harris also was held out of practice because of a lower-back injury that has not healed since last season.
