The Iranian navy detained an Arab commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, the Kuwaiti News Agency reported. It said the vessel, belonging to a company jointly owned by Iraq and the six Arab nations of the Persian Gulf, was taken to an unspecified Iranian port. The report gave no other details. Earlier, Iraqi warplanes fired at the Cypriot tanker Polikon, which was traveling on Iran’s oil-export routes. No reports were available on damage or any casualties that might have resulted. Iran and Iraq have been at war for nearly six years.
