Pomona : Statue to Be Shown at Fair

Share

A urethane foam replica of the Goddess of Pomona, modeled after the city’s symbol that is on display in the public library, will be featured at a booth during the Los Angeles County Fair.

The statue, which will be surrounded by scaffolding like that used for the Statue of Liberty restoration, is part of a $15,000 promotional display aimed at touting Pomona as a city “Building Toward the Second Century.”

The City Council has approved a request from the city’s fair booth committee to finance one-fourth of the project, which is also expected to receive funding from the Chamber of Commerce, the Pomona Unified School District and the Pomona Economic Development Corp. The city, which begins its centennial celebration next year, has hosted the county fair since 1922.
