Conference on Innovative Art

More than 30 of the nation’s top artists and administrators from innovative art teaching programs in alternative settings such as correctional institutions will meet for a UCLA Extension conference Aug. 21 through 23 at 147 Dodd Hall.

Among those who will participate in “Art in Other Places” are Sarah Elgart, a Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival presenter and choreographer who gives dance programs for women inmates; Laurie Meadoff, founder of a multimedia project involving young people in New York City, and Victoria Ann-Lewis, a physically disabled actress who teaches theater workshops for the disabled. Other participants work with the elderly, prison inmates, the terminally ill or juvenile offenders.

“The audiences we are reaching are often cut off from the mainstream of everyday life,” said coordinator Susan Hill, director of UCLA Extension’s Artsreach program. The enrollment fee is $115.
