Julius Erving, who is considering offers from the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz said that he will inform the owners of both NBA clubs of his decision today.

If Erving, 36, a free agent after 10 seasons with the 76ers, lets Jazz owner Larry Miller present an offer sheet, Philadelphia would have 15 days to match it.

A confidant of the NBA star, who wished to remain anonymous, said on Saturday that Erving probably would accept a $3.5 million, two-year offer from the Jazz unless 76ers’ owner Harold Katz came up with a last-minute offer big enough to change Erving’s mind.

Erving, however, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that “money is no object.”

“Obviously, Utah’s dollars are better,” said Erving, who has multi-faceted business interests in the East and lives in nearby Villanova. “We’re talking about family and life style considerations.

“My decision will be based first on family and second in terms of business.”

On more than one occasion, Erving has said he wants to end his pro basketball career in Philadelphia.

The 76ers reportedly have offered a one-year contract matching Erving’s nearly $1.5 million for last season, after an initial $800,000 offer that “insulted” Erving, according to the confidant.
