Death Penalty Sought in Officer’s Slaying

Prosecutors said Thursday that they will seek the death penalty against two of four men charged in the killing of Los Angeles Police Detective Thomas C. Williams, who was shot Oct. 31 as he picked up his 6-year-old son at a Canoga Park day-care center.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said it will seek a capital sentence against Daniel S. Jenkins, 30, and Rubin Antonio Moss, 24.
Prosecutors will not ask for the death penalty for Duane Moody, 28, and Voltaire Williams, 23.
The four South Los Angeles men remain in custody without bail, charged with killing Williams in revenge for his testimony hours earlier in the robbery trial of Jenkins.
Jenkins was later convicted of the armed robbery of a North Hollywood theater manager and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Jenkins and Moss were more criminally culpable than the other defendants because they “participated in the planning and execution of Officer Williams to a much greater extent,” Assistant Dist. Atty. Curt Livesay said.
