A well-known Tijuana lawyer and occasional journalist was machine-gunned to death as he drove on a Tijuana road, Mexican State Judicial Police said. Eleuterio Cachu de la Cerda was killed about 1:30 a.m. on the highway between downtown and Playas de Tijuana. Eight bullets were found in his body; his car was riddled with others. Mexican police said the method of killing may indicate the involvement of drug traffickers. As a lawyer in the federal courts, Cachu may have defended accused dealers. He also wrote occasionally for several Mexican newspapers.
