San Diego Tennis : Unseeded Kloberdanz Advances to Quarterfinals With Victory
Krunch Kloberdanz of Oklahoma City continued his surprising success in the USTA Boys 12 National Tennis Tournament at Morley Field Thursday afternoon.
Kloberdanz, the only unseeded player left in the singles draw, defeated No. 8-seeded Damon Henkel of Satellite Beach, Fla., 6-2, 6-2, to advance to today’s quarterfinal round.
Kloberdanz will meet No. 2-seeded Brian Dunn of Brandon, Fla., today at noon. Dunn beat unseeded Mark Nasser Thursday, 6-4, 6-0,
Meanwhile, No. 1-seeded Vincent Spadea of Boca Raton, Fla., moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Joseph Carneley of Florida. Spadea will play No. 7-seeded Chris Devore of Decatur, Ill., in a 10:30 match today.
Others who advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday include No. 4 Jeff Salzenstein of Englewood, Colo., No. 5 Jeffrey Giraldo of Grosse Pointe, Mich., No. 6 Eddie Schwatz of Riverwoods, Ill., and Court Gettel of Tucson, Ariz., who was seeded in the No. 9 through No. 16 bracket.
In doubles, No. 1-seeded team of Eric Dabsha and Henkel moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 7-5, victory over Eric Donley and Michael Oh.
