Share

A 38-year-old Santa Ana man who was an inmate at the Orange County Jail died at the UCI Medical Center on Saturday morning, but the sheriff’s office would not release any details about his illness.

Torres Jose Angel, who was being held on $25,000 bail, was arrested by Santa Ana police Aug. 1 on suspicion of selling a controlled substance. He was taken to the medical ward at the men’s jail in Santa Ana on Aug. 6 and later that day transferred to the intensive-care ward at the UCI Medical Center in Orange.

An autopsy was performed Saturday, but coroner’s officials said further tests are expected and it might be several weeks before a cause of death is given.
