Fullerton : Dannemeyer, Staff to Take Drug Tests
Saying he has taken President Reagan’s concern about drug abuse to heart, Rep. William E. Dannemeyer (R-Fullerton) announced that he has asked his staff in Fullerton and Washington to “submit voluntarily” to a comprehensive drug test.
Dannemeyer said last week that he will also be tested when his district office staff in Fullerton is tested today.
“It is time for this of us in the public eye to stand up and volunteer to be tested,” Dannemeyer said.
The congressman said he had decided to be tested because, “If we are not willing to undergo such a test, it could be seen by some as an indication that we have something to hide. The truth is that only those with something to hide have any cause to object to testing.”
According to Dannemeyer aide Duane Crumb, all office members in Washington and Fullerton agreed immediately to be tested and there was no discussion of what might be done if an aide refused.
Last Monday, President Reagan called for a drug-free workplace and asked all Americans to join him in a national crusade against drug abuse. He said he and his cabinet members would be among the first government workers to volunteer to take urine tests.
