A man fired a round from a sawed-off shotgun through a wall at a Fullerton bar and then barricaded himself inside for three hours before surrendering to police early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Andrew Gutierrez, 33, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and possession of an illegal weapon, Police Sgt. Al Burks said. Gutierrez, whose address is unknown, remained in Fullerton City Jail on $25,000 bail Sunday.

Reports of a man with a gun brought police to the Humdinger Bar, at the corner of West Orangethorpe Avenue and Peckham Street, about 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Don Kimbro said.

The small bar, in a shopping center, features female dancers and has three pool tables.

While police officers were questioning witnesses outside, a round was fired from inside the bar through a wall in their direction, Kimbro said.

Police then surrounded the bar and ordered everyone out, he said.

A SWAT team was called in, and the police contingent grew to nearly 30, Sgt. Al Burks said.

All of the bar’s customers and employees came out, but the man remained inside and refused to respond to police negotiators, Burks said. The suspect poked his head out the door of the bar a few times, finally walking out and surrendering at 2:30 a.m., with no more shots being fired, according to Burks.

Burks said the bar’s manager called police after the man began raising his gun and pointing it at the door each time someone walked in.
