Joan Kroc has donated $50,000 to the nonprofit San Diego AIDS Project, which conducts educational campaigns and supports those affected by acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

It is the largest single, private donation given since the project started in 1983, according to Dr. James Stoddart, project board chairman. Kroc had previously given three sums to the project totaling $60,000.

“Gifts of this sort are absolutely vital to provide the kinds of patient services that can’t be found elsewhere,” said Stoddart. He said the gift will be used for fund raising and helping patients with AIDS, its related complex and family and friends of patients. A $235,000 state grant goes to education about the disease.
