A Durham, N.C., woman was electrocuted when she became entangled in a downed power line when she got out of her car and a 7-year-old girl was in critical condition after she and six other people in the state were hit by lightning as severe thunderstorms marched across the Southeast. The thunderstorms developed along a slow-moving cold front that promised some relief from the scorching heat and drought that has plagued the Southeast this summer, but also brought violent weather.
