Ex-Councilman C.L. Blanchard Dies at Age 75

Funeral services for former City Councilman C. Lemoine Blanchard will be held tonight at 7 at First Christian Church of North Hollywood.

Blanchard, a former president and longtime member of the City Airport Commission, was 75 when he died in a Burbank hospital Wednesday of heart failure.

He was a grandson of the founder of Blanchard Lumber Co., founded in 1911 on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, and he owned the company most of his life.

He was elected to the Los Angeles City Council’s 2nd District in 1959 and represented the San Fernando Valley until 1963, when he was defeated for reelection by James M. Potter. He was appointed to the Airport Commission in September, 1963, served for 10 years and was president in 1969.

In 1960, Blanchard made an unsuccessful bid for Congress from the then-22nd District.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, a daughter, son, brother, two sisters, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
