Church Offers Workshop Series for Families

A series of three religious and secular workshops aimed at the entire family will continue Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Community Presbyterian Church of San Juan Capistrano, 32202 Del Obispo Road.

Sponsored by the Interfaith Peace Ministry of Orange County, the “First Annual Shalom Series: Spiritual Growth Through Social Justice and Peace” will feature an on-site art project for children using the theme “What Peace Means to Me.” The project will be led by art educator Phyllis Dennison.

Workshop activities for adults will include films and discussion on the quest for peace and justice.

Subsequent workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton, 838 N. Euclid Ave. An optional donation of $5 per family will be requested. For more information, call (714) 771-2901.

Temple Beth David will hold an open house at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 6100 Hefley St., Westminster. As part of a series of open houses held to introduce the Jewish community to Temple Beth David’s activities, the Membership Night service will be conducted by Rabbi Henri E. Front and Cantor Harry Newman. Also, author Nina Vida will speak on “Challenge: Writing About the Holocaust” at 8 p.m. She is the author of the recent book “Return From Darkness.” A social hour will follow all services. The Christian Women’s Club of Fullerton will hold a luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Los Coyotes Country Club, 8888 Los Coyotes Drive, Buena Park. “Personally Yours” is the theme of the affair, which features a presentation by Nordstrom’s representative. A silent auction will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church after 10 a.m. worship services Sunday at 429 Park Ave., Laguna Beach. Participants are invited to bring a lunch and bid on the items that have been donated to the church, including original artwork, crafts and professional services. The first of a series of sermons titled “Redemption of the Lord” will begin Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. service at Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach. Available to preschoolers through adults, the 9 to 11:45 a.m. classes will stress the theme “Jesus Christ: True God, True Man, True Savior.” Bible stories, arts and crafts and refreshments will be included during each session.
