The Senate on Friday passed legislation allocating $650 million from a 1984 prison construction bond act for various projects, including state prisons in Del Norte, Riverside, Kern and Los Angeles counties.

The measure, by Assemblyman Richard Robinson (D-Garden Grove) was returned on a 28-1 vote to the Assembly for consideration of Senate amendments.

The bill authorizes financing for a maximum-security, 2,000-bed prison in Del Norte County, a medium-security, 2,000-bed prison in Riverside County and a prison at Corcoran in Kern County.

The bill earmarks $114.6 million for construction of the first state prison in Los Angeles County. A bill that would approve a site for that prison is stalled in the Senate.
