Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee A. Iacocca has overtaken Vice President George Bush in the latest Gallup Poll presidential test race and currently leads 48% to 42% among registered voters. Iacocca now runs a better race against Bush than does Sen. Gary Hart (D-Colo.) or New York Gov. Mario M. Cuomo. Bush and Hart are in a dead heat, 45% to 45%, while Bush holds a 53%-37% lead over Cuomo. A year ago, Iacocca trailed Bush 35% to 52%. Though Iacocca has denied interest, his supporters are pressing for his nomination.
