In your editorial you focus on the treatment of those who are already addicted to narcotics. You state, “The only sure way to dry up demand is to dry out the addicted . . . in the end it will be up to physicians and therapists in treatment centers.”

Wrong! The answer to the drug problem is to educate our children to stay away from narcotics (through the DARE program and others), and to cut off the supply.

Your plan is akin to locking the barn door after the horse is stolen. JOHN C. ARGUE
