“Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels.” Sundown. AAD. Parsons’ mix of country sentimentality and rock idealism made him one of the most compelling and influential figures in modern pop, a man who understood the connection between artists as sociologically distant as Elvis Presley and Merle Haggard. Parsons’ most inspired work was 1969’s “The Gilded Palace of Sin” (not available on CD), but this collection, featuring Emmylou Harris on backup vocals and originally released by Sierra Records from a live 1973 radio broadcast, has a more casual and endearing edge. Sound quality: average.
