Former Iowa quarterback Chuck Long ended his 28-day holdout and signed a four-year contract worth $1.75 million with the Detroit Lions, making him the fourth-highest-paid rookie in pro football this season.
“I’m glad to be in camp and glad to have it over with,” Long, the Lions’ top draft pick, said at a news conference at the teams’ training camp in Rochester, Mich. “I think it’s going to be the start of a good, long relationship.”
Russ Thomas, the Lions’ general manager, said: “It took a long time to do it, but we’re happy to sign him. I think the structure of the contract is fair to both sides.”
