Officials rolled out the red carpet for Republican National Committee members Tuesday in a 24-hour whirlwind campaign aimed at luring the party’s national convention to the gaming capital in 1988.

The selection committee came to Las Vegas after a two-day stop in Los Angeles.

First on the agenda was a visit to the 18,000-seat Thomas & Mack Center, followed by lunch at the Las Vegas Country Club, then a tour of the city.

A dinner and stage show were scheduled Tuesday night at Bally’s Grand.

The August, 1988, convention is expected to bring the host city more than $30 million in revenue plus millions more in national exposure.
