Tillman Floors Parsons Twice and Stops Him in First Round

Henry Tillman, former North American Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion and 1984 Olympic gold medalist, stopped Cedric Parsons of Brockton, Mass., Tuesday night in the first round of their scheduled 10-round bout.

Tillman, 191 pounds, of Los Angeles, knocked down Parsons twice before the referee stopped the fight. The victory improved Tillman’s record to 11-1 with eight knockouts, while Parsons, 193, dropped to 13-4 with nine knockouts.

In another bout, undefeated Greg Haugen, 137, of Las Vegas earned an easy 10-round unanimous decision over Ernie Landeros, 136, of Eagle Rock, Calif., in a lightweight bout.

Haugen, 18-0-1 with nine knockouts, won by six, five and four points respectively on the three judges’ scorecards.

Neither fighter was seriously hurt or in danger of being knocked down or out.
