Wilmington : Landlords’ Trials Delayed
The trials of a father and son charged with maintaining slum conditions at four properties they own in Wilmington have been postponed.
Victor Corpuz, 74, and his son, Samuel, 46, were scheduled to appear in court last Thursday, but the cases were delayed because of a busy court calendar, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, which is prosecuting the cases. The spokesman said the two men were ordered to appear in Municipal Court on Sept. 10, when they will be assigned a trial date.
Victor Corpuz pleaded not guilty in May to 17 violations of various health and building and safety codes at a duplex on Wilmington Boulevard. Samuel Corpuz pleaded not guilty at the same time to 43 violations at a three-unit building on Wilmington Boulevard and two four-unit buildings on Island Avenue.
Each of the charges, which are misdemeanors, carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, the spokesman said.
