Bell : Agency Accepts Properties

The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, Monday approved the acceptance of two parcels of land from the City of Bell and the Surplus Property Authority for a commercial development.

The authority bought a 2.1-acre parcel from the federal government in 1981 and the city acquired a 6.4-acre site of a former National Guard armory, also from the federal government, last year. Both parcels are in the city’s industrial redevelopment area, near Bandini Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.

The transfer is necessary for the agency to have the combined properties developed, said David Meyer, community development director. The Redevelopment Agency approved an agreement in June to give Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co. an exclusive right to negotiate for the development of the land. The company proposed building an office building and two manufacturing buildings on the site.

The developer has had trouble obtaining the title reports because the properties were owned by the federal government, Meyer said. As a result, a request by Trammell Crow to extend for 60 days its exclusive right to negotiate for development of the property was approved by the agency.
