An 18-year-old man convicted of killing his sexually abusive guardian, then spared from prison by a sympathetic judge and jury, has been arrested for violating his probation, his lawyer reported. Joeri DeBeer was arrested last Thursday at the home of his new guardian family in the Contra Costa County town of Oakley for visiting his ex-girlfriend, who was a key witness against him. DeBeer was ordered not to see or contact Avona Mathews, who also lives in Contra Costa County, as part of his three-year probation. DeBeer was released after spending one day in jail on his promise to return to Orange County Municipal Court in Santa Ana on Sept. 15 to enter a plea to the probation violation charge. He was convicted earlier this year in Orange County of voluntary manslaughter for the April 9, 1985, shooting death of his legal guardian, Phillip A. Parsons of Dana Point.
