Huntington Beach : Environmentalists Due Support for City Council

Share

A grass-roots political action committee has been formed to lend support and raise funds for environmentalist candidates in the November City Council election.

Calling itself Huntington Beach Tomorrow, the group plans to interview the 21 candidates who are running for four seats on the council about their opinions on such issues as downtown redevelopment, the preservation of the city’s beaches and wetlands, flood prevention and how much and how fast Huntington Beach should grow.

“We’ve been hiding in the bushes and being fed a lot of garbage by the city, so we’ve decided to do something,” said Doug Langevin, a spokesman for the group.

Langevin said the group, which has held four informal meetings so far, has 80 members to date and hopes to raise $50,000 by election day. Leaders of Huntington Beach Tomorrow will hold a press conference at 7 p.m. Monday at 18460 Gothard St. to formally announce the creation of the group and its purpose.
