Anaheim : Tavern Owner Is Slain After Patrons Eject Man

A bar patron who was thrown out by other customers for causing a disturbance returned and is suspected of fatally shooting the tavern owner early Thursday, a police spokesman said.

Sgt. Michael Murphy said Gusman Salas Juarez, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at the Tiki Bar, 910 N. Anaheim Blvd.

He said that Juarez had been shot once in the chest.

According to witnesses, Murphy said, Pedro Torrez had been causing a disturbance at the bar before customers ejected him.

Torrez, 29, of Anaheim returned at 12:30 a.m. and the shooting occurred, Murphy said.

Torrez was traced to his apartment in the 1200 block of North Robin Street after witnesses gave police a description of his car. He was arrested without incident, the police spokesman said.

Torrez was booked for investigation of murder and was being held at City Jail on $250,000 bail.
