Businessman Held in Plot to Solicit Murder
Long Beach police on Thursday arrested a Lake View Terrace businessman on suspicion of soliciting the murder of a former business acquaintance.
The man, William F. Velzy, 57, was arrested without incident about 11:30 a.m. at his business, Velzy Engineering and Machine in Lake View Terrace, Long Beach police Lt. George Miller said.
Velzy is a suspect in a scheme to kill Walter Kellerman, 47, of Los Angeles, who was involved in a business dispute with Velzy over the past four years, Miller said.
After receiving information earlier this week about a murder being planned in Long Beach, detectives on Wednesday secretly watched the final payment of an unspecified amount to the intended killer, Miller said. The identity of the intended killer was not made known.
Long Beach police said their investigation is continuing.
