The Nation : 41 Hurt in Trolley Crash

A high-speed trolley crashed through a wall at the 69th Street Terminal in the Philadelphia suburb of Upper Darby, after its brakes failed, injuring at least 41 people. The trolley came to rest with one-fourth of its length jutting into the terminal. One person was hurt in the terminal. One rider was reported in critical condition, and at a hospital that received nine of the injured, a supervisor said: “Some are bad fractures and lacerations.” The driver, Albert Chesire, 31, shouted to passengers to brace themselves when the brakes failed. He suffered a broken ankle.
