Share

A line of thunderstorms that downed trees and power lines across the upper Midwest moved into Ohio with gale-force winds, shattering windows and ripping the roof off an elementary school. The storms stretched from northern Ohio across Iowa and Minnesota into western Kansas and eastern Colorado, the National Weather Service said. Winds of 70 m.p.h. shattered windows and ripped the roof off Homewood Elementary School in Lorain in northern Ohio. There were no injuries. In Illinois, a 16-year-old grounds worker was struck and killed by lightning at the Ellwood Golf Course in Genoa.
